For my YaoiCon 2007 panel, I put together a tutorial on Japanese gaming: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Japanese Gaming. This version focused nearly entirely on boys' love and girls' games. For my Anime Oasis 2009 panel, I made some minor changes to the tutorial to include some resources for bishoujo gamers as well.
Now this incredibly awesome tutorial is available for download:

In this tutorial, you can find the following information:
-Installing Japanese Language Support on Windows XP and other Operating Systems
-Installing and uninstalling Japanese games
-Using virtual disk drives and disk image files
-Comprehensive list of Japanese gaming terminology
-Basics of playing Japanese games
-List of common game commands and option menu terms
-Finding and Using Capture Guides
-AGTH usage, including basics, commands, usage tips, and compatibility lists
-Troubleshooting information
The guide is screen-cap heavy, so expect a lot of picture examples. The guide is written in HTML, so any computer can view it so long as you have a web browser. It is contained in a .zip file. To use the guide, just unzip all the contents to a folder and open index.html.
