I finally figured out how to display Japanese on my Mac without any weird math symbols!
My guide is similar to Mastress Alita’s Japanese Game Installation Guide for the PC.
I made a rough guide to switch languages. Please be careful when you are doing this. I am not a Mac OS expert. Please do not ask me to troubleshoot for you.
Mac Japanese Language Installation Guide:
NOTE: The OS and software were all updated when preparing to switch languages.
1. Open System Preferences.
2. Click International.
3. Click Language tab.
4. Click Edit List.
5. List Language appears.
6. Scroll down to Japanese. It will be in Japanese characters.
7. Click the check mark box and click OK.
8. Japanese will be in the Languages on the left.
9. Japanese might either be first or second with respect to your preferred language.
10. a. If Japanese is first, then close International and restart the Mac. Once it is restarted, the computer will be in Japanese language mode.
OR
b. If your preferred language is first, then click and drag Japanese to the top. After that, close International and restart the Mac. Once it is restarted, the computer will be in Japanese language mode.
11. Play the game!
NOTE: There are a yellow triangle warning sign and a talk bubble with an exclamation point informing that you might want to change what they advise. I did not think it necessary for myself. Do what you think is appropriate for your Mac.
