Do You Try to Collect Game Merch?
« Thread Started on Feb 8, 2009, 4:17pm »

Okay, I think I'm done being the new member with zero posts now lol so I'll stop assaulting the poor, defenseless threads here. In repentance, I suppose I'll start up my own topic here. Sorry if I annoyed anyone orz

Anyway, back on topic, for those of you who buy video games (whether they be in English, Japanese, wherever), do you ever think about buying the other game merchandise? I was just looking online for a game soundtrack when I started thinking, "Does anyone actually hand over $30-40 for this soundtrack? When most of the songs are instrumentals?"

When I buy English games, I don't really think about buying any related game materials, mostly because there aren't a lotta game-related materials sold here. It's usually only t-shirts, action figures or the occasional soundtrack CD that you see on the shelves, and only for really popular games (Halo, Resident Evil, etc.)

When I buy Japanese games though, especially BL games, I try to get ahold of the limited edition copy of the game, any tokuten CDs/drama CDs and Messe/Amazon character voice CDs (though I've decided to stop looking for the latter recently, I spent $50 for VividColor's Love Me Tender, which came with a tokuten interview CD, $20 for that same tokuten CD because I didn't know it came with my preorder, grr, $20 for a tokuten drama CD that only came with Japanese preorders and $20 for a Messe character voice CD-ROM). I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have any use for these game related items in the future, but for some reason I have the urge to collect them with my Japanese games. A big waste of money I know, but I just need to have them @_@

I have the Artbook for Meine Liebe and the Breath of Fire Official Complete Works. The OSTs to Final Fantasy VI, VII, VII Piano Collection, Tactics, and the 14CD Breath of Fire Soundtrack Box. (Plus a lot of OSTs on my PC that I don't legally own :P ) The Lamento One Coin Figures and 2 Togainu no Chi Figures. So yea, I do buy some merchandise. Not often, though.

I buy merchandise if I really like the game or think it's worthwhile. I'm an impulse buyer so I usually only pick up goods if they're physically in front of me, ordering online is only if I really -must- have something.

Recently I picked up the Fanatica and Messiah visual fanbooks at Kinokuniya when I was in California. The Fanatica one especially is my prized possession being it's my favorite BL game and so hard to find merchandise for it.

I import a lot of music CDs as well, though usually not from games.

I was close to having a poster from Love Revo UNTIL I found out it had to be shipped from Singapore

Unfortunately, I'm too broke to ship anything from across the world and then the suspense of waiting for it would keel meh
