Basic Tutorial
I found out about this great little program from Hongfire. Anime Games Text Hooker is similar in usage (but completely different program coding) to Oh! Text Hooker, but from what I have found so far, works much better. It hooks text in different threads, which helps seperate out system code, option screens, ect. from the game dialogue, while O!TH dumped it all together. Also, it seems to not repeat lines and put in garbage text as much as O!TH did. Many have found it even works on games that O!TH wouldn't work on, though doesn't work with others. However, it has lots of different command variables that can be used to help run the program with different games.
However, unlike O!TH, AGTH does not have its own translation module. Though for those that have ever used the built-in translation module for O!TH, it sucks anyway. AGTH is made for extracting the Japanese script, but it can automatically copy that to the clipboard, and then using the Japanese translation software Atlas, you can set it to automatically translate data copied from the clipboard... giving you instant translation in the Quick Atlas window. Atlas uses the same translation programming as the Excite translation website. So yes, it isn't that great, but it can be a helpful tool to understanding what is going on just a little bit better. You can get a trial version of Atlas from their website.
Anyway, here is the website for Anime Game Text Hooker: http://agthook.googlepages.com/index.html
And here is the Hongfire thread about the program: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?&p=555435
Many questions about how to run the program, how command parameters work, compatibility with certain games, ect. are answered in these threads, and questions can be posted there.
In simplest terms, it works like this:
1. You create a shortcut of the game .exe file. Just right-click the real game.exe file, drag it, and click "Create Shortcut here". It'll be a copy with an arrow added in the corner of the icon.
2. Right-click the shortcut game.exe and in the "Target" field, add the location of the agth.exe file. A /c variable is added so it'll automatically put extracted game text on the clipboard, so that Quick Atlas can translate it. Example:
Target: "C:\Program Files\AGTH\agth.exe" /c "C:\Games\Cool Game\game.exe"
3. Open Quick Atlas. It'll run as an icon of a mouse in your system tray that says "Quick Atlas Mouse Translation". Right click on that icon and put a check next to "Automatic Clipboard Translation". It'll open up a little split-screen box.
4. Double-click the shortcut game.exe (the copy made with the arrow in the corner). It'll load the game with AGTH with it.
5. At the top of the AGTH window, it may by default start hooking system text, ect. Hit the down arrow and select a different process until you find the one that is hooking the game dialogue. Usually this is "TextOut" or "GetGlyphOutline" (but could be others... just check through them).
6. Now on each dialogue screen, AGTH will copy the Japanese text to the clipboard -- it is then automatically sent to the Quick Atlas window you have opened, where the Japanese text will display on the top half of the split-screen, and the translation on the bottom. (I find it is sometimes helpful to change the speed of the text display within the game options, such as setting it to max so it immediately appears instead of writing across the dialogue box -- this makes Quick Atlas able to process it quicker and can fix some problems with text repetition).
Remember, it is the same as Excite translation, so it isn't the best -- you'll get plenty of Engrish and incomprehensible stuff, but on the other hand, some stuff will come out that may just "click" with you with what is currently happening and help make sense of the story. If you only understand 5% normally and it helps you understand 15%, that's an improvement, right? (And honestly, on average I find I understand probably a good 70% or more using AGTH).
Here is an example of me running AGTH with the game "Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru": EXAMPLE
Some games require other triggers to be added to the Target line in the shortcut (just like the /c command), to make it run smooth on some games. Double-clicking the agth.exe file by itself and then going to the Help menu will display a list of some of the commands. Most of these are discussed in later sections of this thread. You can also check the Hongfire AGTH thread for command usage.
For more help with AGTH, I have created a tutorial on playing Japanese games, which includes a section dedicated to AGTH, full of step-by-step instructions with screencaps to show you exactly how to set up and use this program, and how many of the command features work. You may download the tutorial here: BLGHQ's Complete Idiot's Guide to Japanese Gaming
You can also find another AGTH tutorial made by FHC: Guide @ Hongfire and Updated Guide @ Shibuyabashi
Other Usage Tips
* Always set the message speed of the text in the game settings to maximum speed. Sometimes if the speed is not set to maximum, AGTH will repeat or miss characters (if text speed is set to maximum and characters are still repeated, this can be fixed using the /ks parameter which is explained in this guide below). Note that occassionally using the fastest speed may cause problems and using a lower speed fixes the issue, but as a rule of thumb, always try the text speed at maximum first.
* If no threads are hooking the game text by default (or are hooking incorrect text), add the /x parameter and look through the added threads. If still nothing, change /x to /v and look through these added threads. Sometimes text is being extracted to a "hidden" thread that doesn't come up in AGTH by default and these commands bring up more threads. (The /x and /v parameters are explained in this guide below).
* If no text is being extracted, sometimes it is the font being used by the game. Try seeing if the game allows you to change the display font, and try different fonts to see if this allows text to be hooked.
* If Atlas is only receiving question marks, do the following: on Windows XP, go into Control Panel > Regional and Language Options, and make sure your Language tab you have east Asian language support installed and on the Advanced tab the language for non-unicode programs is set to Japanese. Then go back to the Languages tab, click Details, and on the Settings tab under Preferences click the Language Bar button. Checkmark "Show Language Bar on the Desktop". With your AGTH window open, make it the active window, and change the language bar from EN to JP (you may also need to activate the Atlas window and change it from EN to JP as well). It should now send texts fine.
* If Atlas is stealing the focus from the game window, then please try the following (from backup1723 @ Hongfire): You can fix that by editing the windows registry: Start regedit (start->run->regedit), go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop, look for the Key ForegroundLockTimeout and set it to a high value, then reboot Windows so that the changes can take effect. (Additional information can be found here from ChronosAI @ Hongfire).
* I had an issue before where suddenly AGTH no longer worked with any of my game shortcuts, even though it had worked before previously with no problem. After clicking a game shortcut, AGTH would load, but the game would not load. After going into the Windows registry (Start > Run > regedit) I searched for "agth" and deleted all instances. After that, everything started working again great.
NOTE: Troubleshooting AGTH for you is not my job! If you are having issues, ask on the Hongfire AGTH thread!

| | Some Commands Explained « Reply #1 on Mar 4, 2006, 3:01am » | |
Here is how some of the other commands work. These are mainly the most common commands, but there are others as well. If you double-click the agth.exe file and select "Help", you can see a list of all the commands. Make sure you have the most recent version of AGTH, otherwise some of these commands may not be available!
/c = Added to the Target line in a shortcut to automatically copy the extracted text from a process to the clipboard. You will pretty much always have this parameter in your target line. In the newest version of AGTH, if you highlight text from the AGTH window, it is automatically sent to the clipboard as well (make sure to set the AGTH window to Japanese local or Atlas may only get ? ? ? ? when you do this; I have the language bar on my taskbar, and just select AGTH and change it from EN on the language bar to JP, and it works great.)
You can also change the delay before copying text to clipboad. The time value is measured in milliseconds. This can be helpful if a game is copying text to the clipboard and sending it to Atlas before all the text is extracted to the AGTH window. You add the time value right after the /c command (/c300).
/kf = Added to the Target: line in a shortcut to keep lines from repeating. I've found in some cases where a line is getting repeated several times, adding /kf1:200 is helpful.
/ks = Added to the Target: line in a shortcut to keep characters from repeating. If a character is being repeated more than once, add that number to the parameter. By default it will remove one repeated character; /ks2 would remove two, etc.
/b = As of AGTH Ver. 2007.5.2, paragraph split parameters can now be changed with the /b option (or from the Options menu when AGTH is running). If you experience unnecessary line breaks, try increasing the first value (or maybe second). It cannot fix line breaks that occur from the /kf parameter.
/ns = Don't use subcontexts. Use this if a game uses different colored fonts and is separating them into separate threads to make them appear in one thread (like in Ein's games).
/nf = As of AGTH Ver. 2007.5.2, some curser characters are filtered from AGTH. To turn this filtering option off, use /nf.
/p = This is used when a game can't load properly when it is loading AGTH from it's launch. This is usually needed for games that are loading off of two .exe files (like Studio E.go!/Blue Impact games) or ones that may be making some sort of a protection check at launch.
This is how to use it:
1. Create a shortcut of the agth.exe file, instead of a shortcut of the game.exe file.
2. Load the game up normally.
3. Now that the game is running, you need to find its process ID. Do Ctrl+Alt+Del and click the Process tab. Go to View > Select Columns and put a check next to "PID". Look for the process of your game .exe running, and find out the PID number next to it (it'll probably be 3 or 4 digits long).
4. Go to your shortcut agth.exe file. Right click > Properties, and in the Target: line add to the end /c /p#### . The #'s represent the PID number you found. So if your game had a PID of 3862, you will have /c /p3862.
5. Load the shortcut agth.exe. It'll now automatically hook itself to the game file you already have running. Use it now as you normally would. You can also add other parameters to the agth.exe Target: line if needed. Remember, everytime you load the game the ID number will change, so you will have to check it and change it in the agth.exe shortcut's Target: line each time you load the game.
/pn = As of AGTH Ver. 2007.5.2, now you may also use the process name to attach to a game after it is running, instead of the process ID number. This way you don't have to change the process ID number every time. Use /pn followed directly by the process name. Example: /pngame.exe
Make a shortcut of the agth.exe (I suggest putting this shortcut file in the game folder). Right click on the shortcut to agth.exe and add at the end of the target line /c /pngame.exe and any other parameters you may need. Load your game without AGTH. After it is running, then run your agth shortcut.
/t = Makes the AGTH window always be on top.
/x and/or /v = Using these can bring up more threads, and sometimes you can find extracted texts in these threads when none come up by default. The best way to go through them is select the first thread in the list and then use the down arrow to move through them. (If you find a working thread and it is far down on the list, you can use the /w parameter explained below to have AGTH auto-select it).
/x2 = As of AGTH 2007.10.8, the /x parameter has been modified to split different hidden threads to different /x commands. The /x2 command works just like the /x command: it displays more text threads. You do not need to include /x and /x2 parameters together. If you wish to bring up both sets of hidden threads, use /x3.
/w - Can be used to auto-select a thread when you open the game. Find the address of the thread and add it to the /w parameter (For example, if the text is being extracted to "0x0041B85A:000000 TextOutA" you could add /w41B85A and it should select that thread by default when you load the game). /f - Renames specified threads and hides all other threads. This can be used to label the text threads in AGTH rather than having the default "TextOutA", etc. as the thread names. It is used in the following format: /f[Preferred thread name]@[thread address];[Preferred thread name]@[address]. For example, /FDialogue@404F37;Furigana@405725:1124. This would hide all threads except for two which could come up in the AGTH window as "Dialogue" and "Furigana". This makes it easy for you to tell your threads apart and hide the threads you don't use.

| | The /h Command « Reply #2 on Mar 10, 2006, 3:58pm » | |
The /h parameter is complicated enough that I decided to give it its own post, separate from the other commands.
The /h command is used to try to hook text correctly when otherwise it does not hook correctly in AGTH. This can fix problems such as missing characters, text being repeated multiple times, incorrect breaks, and text being extracted in a pyramid style (grabbing a character and adding all previous characters again each time).
The full context of this command is: /H{A|B|W|S|Q|H}[N][data_offset[*drdo]][:sub_offset[*drdo]][#level][@addr[:module[:{name|#ordinal}]]]
And if that makes absolutely no sense to you, don't feel bad, it makes absolutely no sense to me either, but it probably does to programmer-savvy folks.
Using the /h parameter requires some knowledge in programming to use properly. Anyone with some programming know-how or knowledge in debuggers will have an easier time finding the right offset values for /h.
/h Code Tutorials
I used to have some old trial-and-error methods for finding /h codes on this post, but honestly, they just really don't work effectively on games today, and have been removed. If you really want to try your hand at finding an /h code, I highly recommend looking at the following posts and tutorials:
For some tips on how to use OllyDebug to try to find the proper data_offset values to use with /h, check out this post by danj2k on Hongfire.
There is also some information for those that have a little background in programming and assembly language in this post by Kaosu on Hongfire.
To enable Japanese font on Ollydebug, check out this post by Fredricklim on Hongfire.
For some additional, advanced help on finding /h codes, please visit the Advanced AGTH Tutorials by Freaka @ Hongfire. There are great videos there that shows the steps to finding the /h codes for games where AGTH does not extract any text by default, as well as links to hex/SJIS converters. It's extremely useful and I highly recommend giving it a look.
Freaka also explains a way to find /h codes for games with font-caching issues: please check out this post for instructions with screencaps.
And in this post Freaka explains tactics for separating a speaker's name from the game dialogue, in instances where this is the problem.

| | /h Codes for Specific Game Engines « Reply #4 on Aug 27, 2006, 9:05pm » | |
Here are some specific game engines that work with AGTH. Previously these required /h codes, but with the newest version of AGTH, they should be auto-detected. Below you can still find the /h code and patch information if needed.
-Kirikiri Engine: This is an engine that many different games are programmed with (the data files will have a .xp3 extention).
With the release of AGTH 2007.5.2, it should auto-detect games running on the Kirikiri engine and create a user hook thread.
If by some chance there is a problem with this, the /h code for Kirikiri engine is /HW-4*14#1@[thread address] (or with splitting symbol size, /HW-4*14:-4*0#1@[thread address]. The thread address is the address (after the 0's) of the AGTH thread that is extracting the incorrect text.
Some Games on the Kirikiri Engine:
-[Akabeesoft2] Konna Musume ga Itara Boku wa Mou -[Akabeesoft2] Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo -[Akabeesoft2] Sharin no Kuni, Yuukyuu no Shounen Shoujo -[Akabeesoft2] Sono Yokogao wo Mitsumete Shimau ~A Profile~ -[Applique] Miageta Sora ni Ochiteiku -[Asa Project] Meikuru! -[Boy's Software] Gakuen Prince Fanbox -[Chuable] Amanatsu -[EDGE] LIVExEVIL ~Shakunetsu no Edema~ -[EDGE] LIVExEVIL ~Nessa no Prometheus~ -[Flying Shine] Kaiware -[Lapin] Invisible Sign -Isu- -[Lapin] Invisible Sign -Isu- Nemureru Mori -[Le Chocolat meets Flying Shine] SWAN SONG -[Love Delivery] Tsukigami -[Loversoul] Harumoi -[Loversoul] STEPxSTEADY -[Mini] Shojoukyu -[Mixed Up] Kakuu Shoujo -[Q-X] Hime-sama Ririshiku -[Russell.pure] Hakare na Haato ~Dare ga Tame ni Kimi wa Aru?~ -[Tiramisu Villa] Dessert Love ~Kare to no Hajimari~ -[Type Moon] Fate/Stay Night (*see note below) -[Type Moon] Fate/Hollow Ataraxia -[Saucy Soft] Debt ~Abunai President~ -[Shangrila] Boku to 5 Nee to Umi no Year -[Sumikko] Aa, Ojousama -[Studio E.go!] Okaeshi Bea~st! -[Studio Miris] Aozora Gakkou no Sensei-kun -[West Vision] Big Breast Family -[Yuzu Soft] BRA-BAN! ~The Bonds of Melody~ -[Yuzu Soft] ExE
*Note: On Fate/stay night, when you reach the end of a scenario and you click to proceed, your computer may lock up if you do it while using AGTH. Save near the end, then play through it fully using AGTH, then exit the game and reload it without using AGTH and continue, so that the game will remember that the scenario has been cleared.
-RealLive Engine: It's easy to notice if a game uses this engine because the .exe file is called RealLive.exe.
With the release of AGTH 2007.8.24, it should auto-detect games running on the RealLive engine and create a user hook thread.
If by some chance there is a problem with this, you can download the rlivepch.exe patch, run the patch, and select the RealLive.exe for your name. After that, AGTH should hook the text correctly.
Some Games on the RealLive Engine:
-[AMEDEO] Kare to Kare no Made -DX Twin Package Version- -[AMEDEO] Pet Detectives Y's -[AMEDEO] Step ~Futari no Kankei wa Ippo Zutsu~ -[AMEDEO/ocelot] Shin Kyokusoukai Polyphonica Memories White -[b_works] Rashiel's Riddle -[Imagecraft] All titles with a reallive.exe -[Key] All titles with a reallive.exe -[OPTiM] ROSARIUM -[Pekoe] Bokura wa Minna, Koi wo Suru -[PLAYM] Realize -[PLAYM] REI-NANA -[Spray] Kichiku Megane -[Spray] Piyotan ~Housekeeper wa Cute na Tantei~ -[Spray] Soshite Bokura wa -[Studio Mebius] Snow ~Plus Edition~
-System 4.0 Engine: This is the engine used by the newer AliceSoft games.
With the release of AGTH 2007.7.8, it should auto-detect games running on the System 4.0 engine and create a user hook thread. The AliceSoft System 4.0 engine was updated in AGTH 2008.2.28 for compatibility with newer AliceSoft games.
If by some chance there is a problem with this, you may also try this patch, or these /h codes for Alicesoft System 4.0 games:
-[Alicesoft] Alice no Yakata 7: /HB-4*0@9CA0:SactEngine.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe -[Alice Soft] Choukou Sennin Haruka -Beat Blades Haruka-: /HBN8C@EE78:SactEngineDX.dll /PNSYSTEM40.exe (see this post for more detail). Can also try /HB30*0@12760:SactEngineDX.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe or /HB40*0@12760:SactEngineDX.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe -[Alicesoft] Galzoo Island: /HB1C*0@A830:SactEngine.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe -[Alicesoft] Majou no Shokuzai: /HB28*0@AF40:SactEngine.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe -[Alice Soft] Ojousama wo Iinari ni Suru Game: /HB28@13F70:SactEngineDX.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe or /HB-C*0@13F70:SactEngineDX.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe or /HB30*0@135F0:SactEngineDX.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe or /HB40*0@135F0:SactEngineDX.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe -[Alicesoft] Pastel Chime Continue: /HB1C*0@03E1A810 or /HB1C*0@A810:SactEngine.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe -[Alicesoft] Pasucha C++: /HB1C*0@03E0A830 or /HB1C*0@A830:SactEngine.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe -[Alicesoft] Sengoku Rance: /HB40*0@3C4AED0 or /HB40*0@AED0:SactEngine.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe (altered dll found here) -[Alice Soft] Toushin Toushi III: /HBN-8*0@EC60:SACTDX.dll: or /HB30*0@12760:SactEngineDX.dll: -[Alicesoft] Tsumashibori: /HB40*0@3DDAED0 or /HB40*0@AED0:SactEngine.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe [Alice Soft] Vanish! ~Oppai no Kieta Oukoku~: /HB8*4@59370:StoatSpriteEngine.dll /pnsystem40.exe -[Alicesoft] Yokubari Saboten: /HB40*0@AED0:SactEngine.dll /pnSYSTEM40.exe
-rUGP Engine
AGTH should now auto-detect and create working hooks for games running on the rUGP engine (Age is one company which uses this system). As of Version 2008.4.5, the rUGP capabilities have been improved to work on newer versions (such as rUGP 5.81.03).
If however you have some problem with this, you may try the following /h codes:
-[Age] Kimi ga Nozomu Eien ~Latest Edition~: (rUGP Ver 5.81.03): /HA-18@2CDBC:UnivUI.dll /KF /PNrugp.exe or /HA4@2E220:rvmm.dll -[Age] Muvluv: (rUGP Ver 5.72.06) /HA4@1002B1A0 -[Age] Muvluv Alternative: (rUGP Ver 5.70.18) /HA4@100291B0 | (rUGP Ver 5.70.51) /HA4@100295E0 -[Age] Muvluv Altered Fable: (ALTFABLE110_2) /HA4@2C0F0:rvmm.dll -[mirage] Anonymous: (rUGP Ver 5.70.25) /HA4@1002B080 | (rUGP Ver 5.72.25) /HA4@1002B080 -[Overflow] Summer Days Ver. 2: (SummerDays201r rUGP Ver 5.72.10) /HA4@2B1A0:rvmm.dll -[ruf] Rasen Kairou Reprint Edition: (rUGP Ver 5.8020EC) /HA4@1002BF80 or /HA4@2BF80:rvmm.dll

Bishoujo Game AGTH Compatibility List
Bishoujo Games Compatible with AGTH:
Official list from AGTH's website
OTH Compatibility List: Games listed here as compatible with OTH should also be compatible with AGTH. Note that games on this list that are listed as incompatible with OTH may work on AGTH! AGTH works very differently and is compatible with a much wider range of games than OTH.
-[Ankh] Magical Summer: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[AXL] Hidamari: No extra parameters needed. Set speed to fast, not instant. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[AXL] Like a Butler: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[BaseSon] Harukoi Otome: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Broccoli] Cross World: Add the paramters /x /w403DF7. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Broomhandle] Akinourarano ~Akane Iro Shoutengai~: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Candysoft] Mecha-mimi: Use /x3 to find the thread extracting the text correctly. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Candysoft] Tsuyokiss: Add the /kf and /ks options. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Candysoft] Tsuyokiss 2 Gakki: Add the /kf and /ks3 parameters. (Tested at Hongfire.com)

-[Clochette] Kamipani!: Add /ks3. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Clockup] Ryoujoku Gakuenchou: /x /w41CEF7 (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Clockup] Sentinel: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Clover] Quilt: No extra parameters needed. Set font in game to an MS font. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[CROSSNET] Happy Marguerite: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Cuffs] Amesarasa: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Cyberfront/GAINAX] Princess Maker 4: No extra parameters needed. It does have a quirk that needs mentioned, though; in non-voiced scenes, it will sometimes put the character's name right in front of their dialogue, and when Atlas grabs it, it then tries to translate that name in as if it were part of the sentence, messing up the translation. When this happens, just copy the sentence after the name in the AGTH window to send it to Atlas. The major scenes are voiced and in those, it does not have this problem.
-[Discovery] Games by Discovery: Read the instructions here.
-[EROGOS] Mahotama 1 and 2: /V /C300 /KF /W74DC4712:FFFFFF /FGameText@74DC4712 /pnags.exe
-[F&C/FC01] Konata Yori Kanata Made Renewal Edition: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[F&C/Cocktail Soft] Pia Carrot G.O.: No extra parameters needed. However, the names appear in the text field, requiring you to copy just the sentence from the AGTH window. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Feng] Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka: No extra parameters needed.
-[GIGA] BALDR SKY Dive 1 "Lost Memory": Update the game to version 1.01. Add the /x /v /fDiaglogue@619CAF /pnbaldrsky.exe parameters. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[GIGA/Sky High] Hoshi ni Negai wo...: No extra parameters needed. Speaker's name appears after the dialogue, but this shouldn't effect translation. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[GIGA] Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[GIGA/Stripe] Speciality!: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[GIGA/Kotonoha] Tobuyagi Hasakasamanoki no Yume wo Miruka: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Gindokei] Gakuto!: No extra parameters needed. Text speed needs to be set to instant. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Gindokei] Otaku Masshigura: Add the /ks option. The name sometimes appears twice in the text field. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Innocent Grey] PP -pianisshimo-: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Janis] Crossfire: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Kid] Memories Off: No extra parameters needed.
-[Kid] Memories Off 2nd: No extra parameters needed.
-[KISS] AlterEgo: Add the /x and select the "0x004BB8F4:000003A4 MultiByteToWideChar" thread. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[KISS] Custom Reido F: Add /ks2 and /kf parameters. Set in-game text speed to max for best efficieny.
-[KLEIN] Pure Pure: No extra parameters needed. Set in-game text speed to max for best efficiency.
-[Kogado] Angelic Concert Encore: No extra parameters needed. Set in-game text speed to max for best efficiency.
-[Kogado] Angelic Serenade: No extra parameters needed. Set in-game text speed to max for best efficiency.
-[Kogado] Blue Flow: Add the parameters /kf /ks2 /x /fDiaglogue@40CF48;Unit@44B376;Object@415A05 (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Leaf] Comic Party: No extra parameters needed. Change in-game text speed to max for best efficiency.
-[Leaf] Utawareru Mono: Add /kf parameter in the Target line. When a character's position on the screen changes it will capture the previous speaker's name and add it to the current speaker (example: HakuoroEruruu: "Dialogue"), and during battle screens it sometimes grabs the speaker's name after their line of dialogue (example: "Dialogue" :Hakuoro). This isn't really a big deal, since you still know who is speaking. There is one other oddity where it may capture the speaker's name but not their line: If you look in the AGTH window, it does indeed extract the line, but somehow only the name is getting sent to Atlas. In those rare cases, you can highlight and copy the dialogue line from the AGTH window to send it to Atlas.
-[Libre] Niizuma Kapriccho!: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Light] Gunjou no Sora wo Koete: Add the /v option to find the thread extracting text, and set the font in the game to Lucida Sans. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Marmalade] Konneko: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Marmalade] Miraroma: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Maybe-soft] Meido-san to Ookina Ken: No extra parameters needed. Make sure to change the text speed to instant. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[May-Be Soft] Yuugeki Keikan Patvessel ~Kochira Shutoken Joukuu Aozorasho~: No extra parameters needed. However, the names appear in the text field, requiring you to copy just the sentence from the AGTH window. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Meteor] Chokotto Vampire: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Milk Pie] Chichi Fecchi games: Add the /kf parameter. Keep text speed at default speed, not instant. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Mink] Danger Angel: Add /kf1:200 parameter.
-[Moonstone] Doko e Iku no, Ano Hi: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Moonstone] Clear: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Navel] Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai: No extra parameters needed. The soliloquy at the beginning of the game has no bracket to separate the name and the speech, but other than that, everything is normal. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Navel] Really? Really!: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Purple Software] Aki-iro Renka: Add /x /w423A64. The hook I use doesn't grab the character's name, but that shouldn't be a problem at all. The /w part is just so it'll auto-select the thread. Technically, you don't need it but then you'll need to hunt through the hooked threads until you find either "423A64 lstrlenA" or "423A71 lstrcpyA" (both threads appear to hook the same thing). The character's names are hooked on "4262FC lstrcpyA".
-[Purple Software] Miharu ~Alto Another Story~: Add /x /w42ACF9. The /w part is just so it'll auto-select the thread. Technically, you don't need it but then you'll need to hunt through the hooked threads until you find either "42ACF9 lstrlenA" or "42AD08 lstrcpyA" (both threads appear to hook the same thing). The character's names are hooked on "42ACB2 lstrcpyA".
-[Purple Software] Tenshi no Tamago: Add /kf3 parameter.
-[Ricotta] Princess Lover: Use /ks3 and select the GetTextExtentPoint thread. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[rootnuko] id: Use /x, then select the corresponding KiriKiri thread. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Shangrila] Akatsuki no Goei: Add /x3 to the command line and go to the _mbsinc thread. (Tested at Lolitype.net)
-[Shelf] Kagirohi ~Shakukei~: Add /x3 to the command line. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[SkyFish] Harukazedorini, Tomagiri wo: No extra parameters needed. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Skyfish] Shirogane no Soleil -Successor of Wyrd-: No extra parameters needed. However, the names appear in the text field, requiring you to copy just the sentence from the AGTH window. (Tested at Hongfire.com)
-[Softhouse Chara] Nangoku Dominion: Add the /ns /kf1:200 /fDialogue@100187E4;Stats@3960BA parameters. Make sure in-game text speed is set to maximum. Character dialogue will be on the Dialogue thread, while in-game status messages (such as the results when you are exploring, etc., that come up in that little pop-up message box) are in the Stats thread.
-[Softhouse Chara] Suzukuri Dragon: No extra parameters needed. Must set in-game text speed to maximum speed to avoid repeated characters.
-[Spirit Speak/Will] Anonono: You need to set Windows to Japanese measurements in order for the text in game to display correctly. (Tested at Hongfire.com)

AGTH Tools
DirectX Windower
Having problems with games that will only play in full-screen and give you no option to play in a window, so you can't run Atlas next to your game window, causing you to have to constantly Alt+Esc to read the Atlas translation?
Thanks to this post by arael86 on the Hongfire AGTH thread, now you can play those pesky legacy games that only work in full-screen-mode in a window! You can get the program, DirectX Windower, here.
Here is how to use it:
1. Open D3DWindower.exe
2. Click the " + " button and select the game .exe for the game you want to play in a window. (Note: The actual game .exe, not your shortcut .exe you use for AGTH)
3. Right-click the game .exe that is now showing in the DirectX Windower, and pick the first option on the menu (has an (O) ).
4. On this window, on the first tab, click the button next to the input bar at the bottom and browse to D3dHook.dll in your DirectX Windower program directory.
5. Now click on the third tab, and put a checkmark next to "Get Active Window". Hit OK.
Image of Steps 1-5
6. Highlight your game .exe in the DirectX Windower program, and hit the "Play" button at the top. (Note: You won't see it do anything after turning it on). After hitting the Play button, it will be grayed out and the "Stop" button will be lit up.
7. Open your game shortcut .exe that you use to run the game with AGTH.
Image of Steps 6-7
8. Now your game will be playing in a window! As you can see in the below image, now Angelique Special, a Windows 95 game that would only run in full-screen mode, is now playing in a window, where I can easily see my Atlas translation window as well. No more Alt+Esc constantly to look at the translation!
Image of Step 8
9. Make sure to keep DirectX Windower open while you play your game. When you are finished, hit the "Stop" button and shut the program off.
Japan Text Revisor
This is a tool available here from Reversed Factory. This is a program that helps with monitoring of the clipboard to revise or do delay-paste of Japanese text. Personally, I have never used this tool so I cannot give any usage tips. (You may also find the program AGTH Attach on this site, but as of AGTH Ver. 2007.5.2, it is no longer needed).
AGTH Option Finders
Here are some option finders for various companies, courtesy of LOLITYPE.NET:
Alice Soft System 4.0 Option Finder Atelier Kaguya Option Finder Light Malie Option Finder Little Witch FDD Optioin Finder rUGP 5.x Option Finder
Atlas Mods
You can find many useful mods for Atlas by Freaka here: Atlas Mod Patches. These modified files for Atlas make it more user friendly for AGTH, such as fixing focus stealing, window size limitations, removing added line breaks in the translation, and translating segments by commas. You can pick and choose which customizations you want and download the files from Freaka's site. Make sure to always back up your original Atlas files before replacing them with any modified files so you can revert back if you wish.
SYSTRAN6 Mods
SYSTRAN is another Japanese <--> English translation software, however, it is lacking in an automatic clipboard translation function, making it awkward to use with AGTH, since it required manually copying and pasting the Japanese text from AGTH to SYSTRAN6. However, now you can use Superpanzeta's Clipboard Hooker for SYSTRAN6, which will automatically copy the text from the clipboard, paste to the software, and click the translation button, creating an "automatic clipboard translation" function. It can run alongside Atlas, so you can even use both translation programs at once.
Other Useful Tips
Here are some useful tips for helping to get more understanding out of translations with AGTH+Atlas.
Use JWPce
Run JWPce, which is a free Japanese word processor, while you are playing the game. You can copy the Japanese sentences from either the AGTH window or the Quick Atlas window and paste them in JWPce, and then use it's dictionary, which is very handy for kanji. To look up a word or a kanji on JWPce, highlight it with the mouse (it even puts kanji in blue text for you so you can easily find them), and then hit the F6 key. It'll pop up its dictionary lookup. Example Pic
Add words to the Atlas Dictionary
You can add words to Atlas's dictionary, so if there are certain words used in a game over and over that it always mistranslates, you can add them with the proper English translation. This is particularly handy with character's names, since it can incorrectly romanize katakana names, and often tries to translate out the meanings of the kanji in kanji names.
Here is how you can add words to the Atlas dictionary:
1. Copy the Japanese word you want to add to the dictionary from the Quick Atlas window.
2. On your Quick Atlas window, hit the button at the top of it that has a J and E on it. This will open the main Atlas translator Editor window.
3. Hit the Dictionary option at the top of the Atlas Translator Editor window. and choose "Add Word." It will open a Parts of Speech (EJ) window. Paste the Japanese word into the Japanese input, and type the English translation into the English input. Below you can pick the part of speech it is (if you are just adding names, then just leave it on Noun).
4. Hit the Settings button at the bottom of the Part of Speech (EJ) window. You can change more parts of the part of speech here if you wish (I usually only change "Other" to "Person" if it is a name I am adding under the "Meanings" section). Then hit the "Add EJ" button. Then hit "OK". You can now close out all the extra Atlas windows. Now the next time that name comes around, Atlas will translate it correctly! Example Pic.
Use Other Translation Programs and Services
If a line comes out pretty indecipherable and you really want to see if you can get a better understanding of it, try copying it and pasting it into either Google Translator or Babelfish Translator. You can also try using SysTran Translation Software (which is the same engine used by Babelfish).
You don't need to try Excite because it uses the same translation engine as Atlas.
Other Japanese Language Sites
I've had this list of links on these boards for a long time, but I don't think very many people check it out, so I'm also linking to it in this thread. It is a list I've compiled of links to online Japanese dictionaries and helpful grammar, dialect, and slang sites.
