Big News! BLGHQ to Host a Panel at YaoiCon 2007!
« Thread Started on Jul 20, 2007, 7:41pm »

After several months of waiting to hear from the YaoiCon panel staff, I came home from work today to a pleasant e-mail: my panel for YaoiCon has been approved! I will be running a panel at YaoiCon, and Firestorm will be my co-panelist if she can make it. BLGHQ has been around for four years, and this will be the first time I've been accepted for a BL game panel at YaoiCon.

*squeels*

Sorry. I don't squeel often. I'm a little in shock and also really excited. ^_^

The panel is titled "Getting the Most Out of the BL
Gaming Experience". It's main focus is on how an English-speaker can enjoy playing boys' love games. Here is a brief description of some of the things that will be covered (which may be altered depending on time constraints, etc).

-Instruction of how to use the translation tool Anime Games Text Hooker and other translation tools.
-Basic game set-up, troubleshooting tips, and gaming tips.
-Game demos used as examples.
-Possible hand-outs and drawings for panel attendees.

Any input from users on things that they think would make a great panel would be /extremely/ appreciated. Even if you won't be there, just getting input of the kind of things you'd like to see in a panel on BL gaming that would be helpful and interesting would be great.

Yaoi-Con 2007 will take place at the Marriott San Mateo-San Francisco Airport hotel in the South San Francisco Bay area the weekend of October 26-28, 2007. For more information on YaoiCon, you can visit their website: http://www.yaoicon.com

Wow! Congratulations!

I wish I could go, but SF is really far...so I've never been to Yaoi con...though some really neat artists have been there *wistful*

If you present something that isn't already on your site, could you post them here after the convention, too, please? ..for the ppl who can't go? *hopeful*

I'll probably do some sort of post-con report (the creator of AGTH had told me before that if I got the panel he was interested in how it would go over). I don't really think there would be "new material", rather instructionals to show people how to play Japanese games, so they can actually see it in action. Not sure what else it will cover, but I bet Firestorm may have some ideas as well.

I also realize tomorrow is her birthday. And it's already the 21st where she lives at this time, so... Happy Birthday Firestorm!

Great news! ^_^ I knew you'd get the panel! And thanks for the birthday wishes, I had a delicious dinner of sushi plus movie night with a friend~

Ah...October though...what horrible timing for a date u_u I keep forgetting that this isn't like Otakon, which is during summer vacation and much more easier to schedule a trip around...

If you're still are looking for ideas...I was thinking...

The Ren'ai Game Terminology thread is probably the thread I refer to the most on this site. I have trouble memorizing acronymns and so I keep having to refer back to it *thank you, Mastress Alita <3* :) I think there might be some newbies at the panel, so I think maybe it'd help them like it helps me. I didn't know what most of them meant when I first came here :)

Wow, I'm surprised because I figured that was one of the most least-used of all the informative threads I've made (in fact, it only scored 6% use when I did a poll not long ago on how much people use different resources from the message board... 6% also don't even LOOK at the board -_-;; )

Well if it's useful, then I may include it on the CDROM I hope to make to give out at the panel (which will have tutorials, free software tools, and game demos). If anyone has ideas of things I should include, please let me know. October isn't all that far away now. *is still feeling nervous about giving a panel*

Hmm...well, maybe I just have a worse memory than other people? Or maybe other people came in from a different gaming environment and already new all the acronyms?

I guess I don't need the thread to play games, but to understand what other people are writing about the sames. I have to look up stuff in it about once or twice a week...

That's really neat that you are going to be giving out CD-ROMs :) I'm sure you'll do well because you really know what you're talking about! I mean you made this whole site! I think people have trouble at panels when they don't really know what they're talking about, so you shouldn't have a problem!

Well, I have begun working on a Japanese Gaming guide for YaoiCon. Since I have Windows XP (and had to reinstall it recently >_< ) I was able to make a nice guide for that OS. Now I am trying to collect links to guides for other OSes to add. I'd really like to link to Yume's Mac OS Guide that is posted here in the Troubleshooting section. I was also wondering if Aotan would be willing to make one for Windows Vista and post it in the Troubleshooting section, so I may link to it as well. Sent you guys PMs, let me know about it a.s.a.p.

About the guide: I'm going to try to cover as much as I can regarding Japanese gaming. I'm writing it in HTML format, so that it should work on any PC that has a web browser (instead of making a .doc file, since that requires Microsoft Word). Making the guide in HTML also includes the added benefit of using hyperlinks to move around the guide.

This guide will be provided on CDROMs I intend to distribute at YaoiCon, which will also have promotional stuff from BL games (demos, wallpapers, etc) and useful programs (AGTH, JWPce, trial version of Atlas, etc.) After the con, I will probably make a WinRar file of the guide and put it up on my site available for download.

Again, any suggestions for things to include in the guide, on the CDs, or within the panel discussion, I'm all ears. YaoiCon is only a month away, so I have to get prepared a.s.a.p.

Does anyone on here use Daemon Tools for mounting? I don't, but would like instructions and screencaps on how to do so for the guide I'm making. Any takers?

I use it for mounting, it's pretty self explanitory though. ~scratches head~ I'm not sure how in detail you want for instructing. You just run it, and mount the image..and poof. I think you have to set up a virtual drive first...but I've had it installed so long I'd have to refresh myself on that. o-o'

Screencaps edited and sent! ::Wipes sweat off her brow:: I hope they’ll look decent enough for your BL game panel. :)

Yay, my Installing Japanese Language Support section is now complete. Thanks for all your help. I'm working with limited resources since I can really only provide instructions from what I personally have on my system.

...As for Daemon Tools, yes, there are people actually dumb enough they can't understand something that is completely self explanatory. But I use Alcohol 120% for mounting, and therefore can only provide directions for that software. Which is why I'm hunting for some info on Daemon Tools (I don't want to install it and stick another virtual drive on my system /just/ to make that section of my guide, and risk messing other stuff up).

I was actually thinking of leaving the whole CD image file thing out, but realize now that's probably a bad idea. (I just don't want to look like I'm "advocating" getting illegal image files, but I actually do know some gamers that immediately make an image file back up of their commercial game and play off of that to avoid damaging their import disks).

Also, I'm working hard on trying to make the most comprehensive AGTH list possible for the guide and my panel. But I'm missing (or having technically difficulties) with some games. Therefore if anyone can test and report on the following, it'd be helpful:

-[Gekka Hyoujin] Toiro Komachi ~Kurenai ni Somaru no Toki Made~ (somehow this one completely slipped by my supplier and I still haven't located it)
-[TWOFIVE] Kyou Kara Maoh ~Oresama no Quest~ (my copy has wacked out fonts, I think because the Chinese ripper went inserting a bunch of stuff about her website among the files. From what I could test AGTH was working fine, but then in the middle of my Japanese text my game would display a random "messed up" character)
-[PIL/SLASH] Koibito Yuugi (I currently only have half of this one downloaded, and thus can't test it...)
-[Ein] Square na Kankei ~Bokura no Renai Shinrigaku 3~ (don't have this one yet either)
